How to Verify a Seller Before Sending Money Online in Nigeria

Digital commerce in Nigeria is growing fast, and fraud is growing right alongside it. Thousands of mobile-enabled fraud cases happen every month, many of them fuelled by anonymous social media accounts and buyers who skip basic verification steps.

If you're mid-transaction right now, nervous about a seller you've never met — that instinct is worth listening to.

A few steps can help. Search the seller's name or business alongside the word "scam" or "reviews" to see what comes up. Ask for a video call — scammers often avoid this because it's harder to fake. Check how long their social media account has existed; brand-new accounts with big promises are a common warning sign. And be wary of any seller who refuses every form of verification while pushing you to pay quickly.

Even after doing all of this, certainty is hard to reach on your own. You can reduce risk, but you can't fully eliminate it — not without a system built for exactly that purpose.

VetandPay › That system is escrow. With VetandPay, your payment doesn't go straight to the seller — it's held safely until you've confirmed the transaction is genuine. If the seller turns out to be fake, your money never left your side. Verification matters, but protection matters more — let VetandPay provide both.
